Facilities - Molecular Dynamics

Femtosecond Laser Facility

Two modelocked Ti:sapphire oscillator/ regenerative amplifier systems provide 100 fsec pulses with pulse energies of up to 2 mJ at 1-5 kHz repetition rates. With harmonic generation, an optical parametric amplifier, sum and difference generation, pulses from 185nm to 10 µm are available with typical energies from 4 to over 500 µJ. Several detection schemes are used, including absorption, LIF, mass-resolved REMPI, and second harmonic and sum frequency generation and transient infrared spectroscopy.

Nanosecond Pulsed Lasers

Several nanosecond 10 Hz Nd:YAG laser systems are available, which are suitable for photolysis studies, nanosecond transient absorption or fluorescence, and other nonlinear optical studies.

Optical Spectrometers

Optical spectrometers operating in the infrared (FTIR), near-IR (FTIR and array), as well as visible – ultraviolet (diode-array spectrometer and dual beam bench systems) are available for studies of the absorption and scattering of samples in the gas-phase, solution and solid state. A variety of sample cells including a long-pathlength White cell, a fiber coupler, etc. are available for use with these spectrometers.
