The chemistry and properties of naval jet and diesel propulsion fuels are linked to the performance of these major sources of energy for naval operations. The current topics of interest include the development of better commercial fuel procurement specifications for Navy/USMC use; the development of chemical tests for low sulfur and ultra low sulfur diesel fuel lubricity determination; the development of screening tests for predicting diesel fuel stability during strategic storage; the investigation of sea based production of advanced liquid hydrocarbon fuels; and as a central repository of over 50 years of fuel chemistry knowledge specifically for the Navy.
