Facilities
The facilities for the Center are in three locations:
- The main facility is located in Building 207 at NRL's main site in
Washington, DC, where most of the fire modeling and bench scale fuels
research is performed.
- The intermediate scale facilities are located at the Cheaspeake
Bay Detachment. There is a flight deck simulator, AFFF
balanced proportioner, room calorimeter, 0.1, 5 and 324 m3. (FIRE
I), pressurizable fire test chambers, various sized simulated ship
compartments, including a submarine bilge mockup, a 200 m3 compartment
and a wind tunnel for solid fuel combustion studies.
- The full scale facility, ex-USS
Shadwell is located in Mobile, Alabama along with two US Coast
Guard fire test ships.
