The Adaptive Systems Section conducts state-of-the-art basic and applied research in machine learning, autonomous systems, and mobile robotics.
Our emphasis is on techniques that allow systems to:
- change their level of autonomy on the fly based on the situation and the current interactions with users,
- adapt to changes in their environment and to changes in their own capabilities,
- learn new behaviors through interaction with the world, and
- interact more naturally with humans.
Applications include autonomous vehicles (including underwater, surface, ground, and air vehicles, and mobile robots), intelligent decision aids, lessons learned systems, and command and control systems.
