NRL Code 5524 is the sole test facility for the NAVY General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment (GPETE) Program and MARINE CORPS Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) Programs. Both programs provide commercial and specialized test instrumentation to their respective services. We are involved in defining the performance and environmental characteristics of the equipment and developing purchase descriptions that define the requirement for contracting efforts. We evaluate submissions during the bid sample testing process. During this process, each manufacturer's submission is evaluated for compliance to the performance and environmental characteristics, including: electrical performance, temperature, humidity, shock, vibration, handling, transit drop, and electromagnetic compatibility (MIL-STD- 461 or other). The types of equipment evaluated fall into the following broad categories: spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters, electromagnetic compatibility receivers (i.e. R&S ESV and ESVP), communication service monitors, network test instrumentation, calibration equipment, transmission line test equipment, optical test equipment, telecommunications test equipment, counters, meters and other assorted instrumentation. Production lot testing is also performed to verify compliance during the production lifecycle.
