Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology magazine has named the Naval Research Laboratory a "Best Diversity Company 2009," based on a reader's choice survey.

During March and April 2009, magazine readers and website visitors were asked to identify the corporations, government agencies and other organizations that do the best work in diversity. The organizations chosen were ranked at the top for their support of minorities and women, their attention to work/life balance, and their commitment to supplier diversity.
