The primary focus of the Special Projects Section is the study of anti-ship missile systems in order to develop a detailed understanding of their operation. The ultimate goal of this effort is to determine potential vulnerabilities associated with current ASM designs. This process is both lengthy and complex and involves analysis of various threat weapon systemís hardware and/or documentation to determine capabilities. Results of the process are often reported to the Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Communities. Design limitations of threat weapon systems are studied to help develop countermeasures. The Section works closely with other Sections in the Branch to verify the effectiveness of proposed countermeasures via laboratory and field testing.
