Gregory T. Petrovic Captain, United States Navy
Captain Gregory T. Petrovic is the Executive Officer at the Naval Research Laboratory. He hails from Yuma, Arizona and New Bern, North Carolina. He began his military career by attending the United States Naval Academy and graduated in May of 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in economics. After commissioning he was designated a Naval Aviator in 1998.
Captain Petrovic's first operational squadron was Patrol Squadron NINE (VP-9) Golden Eagles at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. He served as the Aviation Safety Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. While at VP-9, he made two deployments to the Fifth and Seventh Fleet areas of responsibility. Immediately following 9-11, his combat aircrew was selected to support Operation Enduring Freedom, conducting strikes, CSAR, and ISR.
Captain Petrovic reported to Naples, Italy, for duty at CTF-67 and C6F. While there he served as Surface Officer, Balkans Officer, Current Operations Officer, and as an action officer for Commander Sixth Fleet. During this tour, he detached to Fifth Fleet in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In November 2003, Captain Petrovic reported aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as a Launch and Recovery Officer. While onboard USS George Washington, he deployed to Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Fleet AORs in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
In June of 2005, Captain Petrovic reported to Patrol Squadron Three Zero (VP-30) Pro's Nest at NAS Jacksonville for instructor duty. While at VP-30, he served as CPRG Safety Officer.
In February 2008, he reported to VP-45 at NAS Jacksonville for his department head tour. While at VP-45, he served as Safety/NATOPS, Future Operations, and Maintenance Officer and deployed to C7F.
In January 2010, Captain Petrovic was assigned to the Joint Chiefs Staff (J8). He served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Requirements and Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) Assistant Branch Chief.
Following his Pentagon tour, Captain Petrovic assumed command of Patrol Squadron FIVE, where he led the inaugural P-8 deployment for VP-5 to Okinawa, Japan. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Association leadership award as a Commanding Officer.
Captain Petrovic's most recent assignment was the Division Chief for Theater Anti-Submarine Warfare, International Engagement, and Classified Systems at the Undersea Warfare Development Center, San Diego, California.
Captain Petrovic is a graduate of the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy (formerly the Industrial College of the Armed Forces). His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards, one with VALOR), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other campaign medals and unit awards.
