SPECTRA 5000 is a four-color magazine showcasing research and developments in the Systems Directorate (Code 5000).

The fourth issue of Spectra was published in winter 2014. Since its opening in the spring of 2014, NRL's Laboratory for Autonomous Systems Research has been a focal point for basic and applied research related to unmanned and autonomous systems. This issue of Spectra highlights a few of NRL's many accomplishments in the field of autonomous systems.


The third issue of Spectra was published in Spring 2012. With its emphasis on NRL's autonomous systems research activities, the publication date coincided with the opening of the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems on March 16, 2012. This issue of Spectra celebrates just a few of NRL's many accomplishments in the field of autonomous systems.


The second issue of Spectra was published in fall 2011. With its emphasis on NRL's space research activities, the publication date coincided with the launch of TacSat-4 on September 27th, 2011. The TacSat launch marked the successful launch of NRL's 100th satellite, spanning 65 years of space-based scientific investigation and military applications. This issue of Spectra celebrates just a few of NRL's many space accomplishments.


The premier issue of Spectra was published in fall 2010. It contains seven feature-length articles that spotlight NRL research, current and past. The issue also offers news briefs and other information about the Laboratory's research programs.
