Working in close collaboration with the NRL Center for Corrosion Science and Engineering (Code 6130), the primary research in this topic area has focused on the development and use of Physical Scale Modeling (PSM) for the design of Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems and with the detection and analysis of associated underwater electric field behavior for the Navy’s submarine platforms. In addition to designing most Navy cathodic protection systems, this group provides the current submarine fleet with critical materials analysis for new designs, failure analysis/survey of in-service system components and identification of areas for incorporation of advanced sensors and new materials to help increase platform operational availability and decrease total ownership costs.
