- Science & Engineering majors must maintain a 3.0 GPA (based on 4.0 scale). All other majors are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA (based on 4.0 scale).
- Students must maintain enrollment on at least a half-time basis in an undergraduate, graduate, or certificate program at an accredited educational institution. Must be at least 16 years of age.
Individuals with STEM degrees who possess a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree may be appointed to Scientific and Engineering (S&E) positions in fields such as Aerospace, Ceramics, Chemical, Computer, Electronics/Electrical, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Psychology, Geology, Geophysics, Materials Science, Mathematics, Metallurgy, Meteorology, Physical Science, Physics, and Oceanography. Individuals with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive first consideration.
NRL supports the hiring of candidates eligible for Veterans preference and Schedule A appointments.
NRL has direct hire authorities for a number of science, engineering, technician, professional, administrative, and support positions for both full time permanent and student positions.
Candidates for non-student positions must meet minimum qualification requirements as described in OPM’s operating manual, “Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions,” and meet any possible selective placement factor identified for the position to be filled.
