    NRC-NRL Cooperative Research Associateship Program

The National Research Council (NRC) Research Associateships Program provides postdoctoral scientist and engineers the opportunity to pursue research on problems, largely of their own choice, that are compatible with the interests of the sponsoring laboratories, and to contribute to the overall effort of NRL.

For recent doctoral graduates, this program provides an opportunity for concentrated research in association with selected members of the permanent NRL staff, often as a climax to formal career preparation.

Associateships in this program are awarded to persons who have held a doctorate less than five years at the time of application and are made initially for one year. At the discretion of NRL, 2nd and 3rd year appointments may be arranged, if warranted. Travel and relocation expenses are paid.

The annual stipend levels for Post-Docs are as follows, depending on location:

  • NRL DC: $94,199
  • NRL South, Stennis Space Center, MS: $82,830
  • NRL Monterey, CA: $102,489

Application deadlines: February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. Applications must be submitted through the NRC website.
