Chief of Naval Research Visits Naval Research Laboratory

By Jonathan Sunderman

Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Mathias W. Winter visited the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and spoke to researchers and scientists Nov. 8.

Winter discussed the Navy’s top science and technology (S&T) priorities and shared his appreciation for NRL employee’s dedication and hard work during his visit.

“Admiral Winter has been very supportive of our efforts here at the lab and his support has really paid off for us over the last couple of years,” said Capt. Mark Bruington, NRL’s commanding officer.

Winter spoke about how NRL continues to pave the way in providing the Department of Defense a glimpse into the future, as well as solving today’s problems.

“There’s only one Naval Research Laboratory and you should be proud about that, proud about the identity, proud about the history — more than 90 years you stand on the shoulders of incredible giants across all the disciplines, and your successors will be standing on your shoulders,” said Winter.

The visit ended with Winter thanking everyone at NRL for their continued excellence and expressed the importance of never giving up the commitment to discovery and invention.
