Dr. Bhakta Rath, Associate Director of Research for the Materials Science and Component Technology Directorate, has received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Michigan Tech Alumni Association. Michigan Tech President Glenn Mroz presented Rath with the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions both in his career and to Michigan Tech over a number of years.
In the citation, Rath is noted for being a shining example of where a Michigan Tech education can lead... you have been honored by President Bill Clinton, President George H.W. Bush, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. You have also been awarded the Padma Bhushan from the President of India for your service to humankind. With your wife, Sushama, you support your alma mater through the Bhakta Rath Research Award. We thank you for that incredible stewardship and for all you do for Michigan Tech, the United States, and your native India. The award was conferred on Rath during a ceremony held August 5th at the university.
