Great sports medicine support provides the Air Force Warrior Games team members the help they need as they push their bodies to the limit in the 6,000 to 7,000 foot altitude around Colorado Springs. The Air Force Academy Physical Therapy clinic has staff working with the athletes every day to ensure they are doing the warm-ups needed to prevent injury and to treat the normal injuries that come with playing competitive sports. Here, Capt. Katherine Stroupe from the Air Force Academy Physical Therapy Clinic, checks the fibrous elastic wrap she placed on a team member’s leg to support the Achilles tendon and decrease the stress from Achilles tendonitis. “It is nice to get back to the training room and use my athletic training,” Stroupe said. “The Warrior Games participants take a beating as much as I saw working with professional soccer.” Stroupe just returned from a tour in Afghanistan and said “Some of the injuries these athletes have are the same kind I saw in Afghanistan. These team members really are resilient,” she said as she watched several wheelchair basketball players crash into each other. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Lt.Col. Richard Williamson.)
