    Commander Aaron Roberts

Cmdr. Aaron Roberts, a native of Greenville, Indiana, was commissioned through the Reserve Officers Training Corps and graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

Roberts received his designation as a Naval Aviator in 2005 with Training Squadron (VT) 31, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2006, he was assigned to the “Golden Swordsmen” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 47 at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he qualified as P-3C Primary NATOPS Instructor and deployed to Southwest Asia and Indo-Pacific region.

In 2012, Roberts reported onboard USS Bataan (LHD 5) homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia as Navigator where he qualified as Officer of the Deck Underway and deployed with the “Big Five” to the Mediterranean Sea and Horn of Africa.

In 2016, Roberts reported to VP-9 based out of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and later Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. He led the “Golden Eagles” as detachment Officer in Charge Comalapa, El Salvador and as Maintenance Officer during their successful P-8A Poseidon transition. Over the course of his operational tours Roberts has deployed to the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Martillo.

Roberts first shore tour was with VP-30 “Pro’s Nest” at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida as a P-3C Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot and Weapons and Tactics Instructor. His second shore tour was with Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing ELEVEN, Jacksonville, Florida as Administrative Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. Prior to reporting to Scientific Development Squadron (VXS) 1, Roberts served as Theater Security Cooperation Director (N7) and as Current Operations Officer for Commander, Task Force Seven Two in Misawa, Japan. Roberts assumed responsibilities as Executive Officer of VXS-1 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland in January 2022 and as Commanding Officer in May 2023.

Roberts has flown over 3,000 hours in the P-3C Orion, P-8A Poseidon, and UV-18A Twin Otter. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various other unit and campaign awards.
